How To Get Backlinks By Creating Compelling Content

Compelling Content Breeds Backlinks – Period.

Interesting and Useful Content presented it in an extremely user-friendly way is compelling.

Here are 13 Ways to Create Compelling Content to Build Backlinks (Popularity) For Your Site.

1. Written & Recorded Interviews:  Creating content in an interview format with 5 or 10 questions answered by several experts would be compelling – even if it is written.  You may also create video interview in-person or recorded through Skype.  Edit those answers together to get an interesting and comprehensive overview.  THAT is compelling.

2. 10X Content:  Create content that is 10 Times Better.  Scan the content that exists on a particular subject, typically the top 10 ranked articles on a subject.  Take note of WHY that content is ranking the way it is and then create a better article.  Use images, videos, better explanation, add user-interactivity, better readability, create a tool or create an amalgamation of all the great content and rewrite it better, in your own words and flair.  10X content is well-known in the SEO industry as part of a content marketing strategy.  Those sites that have 10X content also have a lot of backlinks as a result.

3. Egobait:  Interview one expert or write about an industry expert (in the positive) and then send that person a link to your article, blog post or video.  They will likely share it, link to it, or tweet it to all of their followers.  When that person shares your article, you suddenly gain the attention of all their followers as well.  When more people become aware of your site it may lead to backlinks to your site.  It is called Egobait for a reason.  You are using another person’s ego to gain popularity.

4. Educational / Informational Content:  Write comprehensive How-To Articles with images, using video examples, animated images, or line drawings to accentuate your content.  Service-oriented businesses like dentists can create content about different procedures.  Chiropractors can post before, during, and after photos or videos with testimonials and stories from clients.  The best site I have seen is Animated Knots.  Every knot in existence is shown using an animated gif image in an easy-to-see demonstration without hands, shadows, or commentary.

5. User-Generated Content:  Create the ability for visitors to write reviews, ratings, testimonials, post to message boards, post images/memes, and other content to YOUR site.  This may create an advantage over your online competition.  Others will begin to link to it regularly.   What is Pinterest, after all, but a site that allows image submissions?

If a photographer created a hashtag for all the guests at a wedding, he could have FANTASTIC wedding profile pages including his photos as well as images from guests.  Do you think people wouldn’t link to THAT site?  It would likely be written about in the best wedding and photography magazines including online.

6. Create Events:  It could be free or paid training events or seminars.  Realtors and accountants do this often because it not only works, but it also creates ongoing recommendations.  Posting those events on 3rd party sites is an easy way to get backlinks and reviews on social media and directories.

7. Position Responses:  Create written or video responses to experts’ opinions, industry news, recent articles or books, and social or industry trends.  When a person sees the original online article or video, they may also see your response to that article.

8. Create Lists:  New Products for [Year], Top 5 Attorneys in [City], Best 10 Neighborhoods to Live, Top [category products] for [activity] <– fill in the blank for your industry.

9. Expert Product Reviews:  Unboxing is a HUGE revenue-generating form of content on YouTube and is very educational for potential customers.  Establish yourself as an expert, link to your site in the description and more people will see your site and visit it.

10. Encourage Customers to Write Reviews:  Ask your customers, “Do you use Yelp? Here is an easy link to our profile if you’d like to share your experience.”  Ask them when they are happy and satisfied and give them a business card with a short-link to your Yelp profile.

The same for your Google + Business Profile.  Ask, “Do you ever leave reviews on Google?  Here is an easy link to our profile if you’d like to share your experience.”

Use those reviews on your own site.  Provide a citation or link to the actual review, but go ahead and repurpose those testimonials.

11. Guest Posting:  Write a blog post or article for another site. Guest Posting used to be the standard way to become known and popular.  Rarely did anyone feel content with writing an article for their own site.  Being published in a newspaper, journal, magazine or even a book was the standard.  We are going back to that trend today.

When a person writes a guest post, it is standard to have a byline that tells a one or two sentence description of the author and now a link back to their site.  When published on popular sites, it can be very beneficial.   Write something worthy and compelling enough for another site to want to publish it.

12. Podcasting:  Create a podcast about your expertise and make it interesting.

I made a recommendation to a criminal defense attorney on Reddit last year to start a podcast that was NOT limited to educating people on criminal law but would also have criminals that rehabilitated themselves and how they did it.  Very inspiring!

I recommended having police officers discuss arrests, the law, situations they have been involved in, training methods and more.  If this attorney also had prosecutors that convicted criminals (first-time and repeat) and to even to have podcasts where the criminal, the prosecutor, and the defense attorney were present discussing a case they were all a part of, it would be FANTASTIC!

That attorney could have forensic experts on the show, families of victims discussing the case(s) they were involved in, he could have jurors from cases discussing what it was like to be on a jury.

That attorney could have local leaders, politicians, church leaders, directors of non-profits related to rehabilitation and reducing recidivism on the podcast.

Don’t you think that would be a very compelling podcast?

That would set up the attorney for radio and television “expert” segments.  It is no doubt that his site would receive a ton of backlinks, visits, referrals and more.  If the attorney did this, his online competition would not be limited to his local geographical area, it would expand state-wide very quickly and it may even get national attention.

THAT is creating compelling content.

13. Create a Related Site:  High-level SEOs will create an informational website (perhaps using .org) with compelling information by way of articles, videos, statistical analysis (graphs), animated images and other content.

These high-level SEOs then conduct outreach on THAT website to other high-value related websites in hopes of gaining backlinks.  Sometimes this is done for a year or more.

The next step is to post the content from their informational site (SITE B, the .org site) and then redirect all traffic to their money-making website (Site A).

The backlink equity gained from all the backlinks to SITE B is then transferred to SITE A.  SITE A then receives a BOOST in rank and traffic.  Some professionals see this as “gray hat” SEO.  Creating a related site and then redirecting it is not necessarily violating Google policies, but also not exactly being fully honest and truthful.

In Conclusion

There are Many More Ways to Create Content and Backlinks, these are just a few.  Be Creative, Be Passionate and DO THE WORK.  Your site will grow.

Template for Writing Captions to Help Your Website Reach Google’s First Page

Here are the basics of the video written out with most of the slides.
caption template writing website contentThis lesson is called Captions. Captions are a short description at the top of a page that describes the service or product. This is a short description that really is an introduction to what the page is about. This section should also contain internal linking and text-decoration to help a person decide that THIS is the correct page that will give me all the information that I want and need.

The content in the caption will ALWAYS be “above the fold” that is, viewable without having to scroll down the page. Often, Google looks at the content above the fold first and makes determinations as to the subject matter.

Never make a visitor take action to ensure they have arrived on the correct page. Without scrolling or clicking, they should be able to scan the content quickly to determine that THIS is the best, most congruent page available.
pyramid of basic seo title tags meta descriptions h1 tagsA solid foundation of structural SEO begins with a few basics:

- Title Tags – invisible when you look at a page, but it is embedded in the code of a page
- Meta Descriptions (Meta means information or information about something)
Title and Meta Descriptions are both Meta Tags – it tells Google and other search engines and directories what the page is about

- H1 Tags – an HTML element that acts like the Title of the page – it is viewable to the page viewer
- Captions – This is an OP term that basically means it is a description of the page content usually 150-500 words. Located at the top of a page
what are caption and how do they helpWhat Are Captions? Think of Captions as an on-page glorified Meta Description. They are used for people and search engines alike.

Captions provide all the useful information a person and any search engine needs to ensure this content is useful + adding internal linking and text-decoration also helps.

Captions should be placed at the top of a page, above the fold.
caption template writing website contentIn this template, you have a minimum of 6 sentences.

Let’s break it down into 6 separate sections and then put it together at the end.

- 1 Creative Introductory Sentence

- 1 Sentence Summarizing the Service

- 1 Umbrella Sentence About the Company or Owner
- 2 Detailed Sentences about the industry and specific information to that service including incentives, benefits, personas, geolocation, and more

- 1 Conclusion Sentence that reinforces this is what the visitor wants and maybe a call to action
caption 1 example writing page contentWrite a creative introductory sentence to ensure a human being and a bot can tell that this page content is not created by a machine and is not generic in nature. It can be any type of creative sentence that discusses the service or product.

"A professional teeth cleaning, besides daily brushing and flossing, is one of the best things a person can do to keep healthy teeth for a lifetime.

Dr. Acula likes to see his patients twice per year to ensure there are no early signs of gum disease, foreign objects stuck in the crevices and to apply a protective coating of fluoride, which reduces cavities by 18% (1). "
summarize services or productsThe second sentence summarizes the service.

Repeat the service name and boldface it.

The link will lead to a page that discusses plaque and the best ways to combat it.
captions seo discuss business owner or businessThis section should be easy, it is a sentence about the business or the business owner. You can include "save the cat" type information, list awards the person has won, sponsorships for local kids teams, philanthropy work and include social proof information.

Dr. Acula was the first Dentist in St. John to accept all forms of insurance and offer a discount on services when clients paid cash. Today, we have served over 8,500 customers including 2,300 families since 1984. <-- that's great social proof, credibility and a bit "save the cat."
incentives benefits seo contentThis is an opportunity to write about the industry and to include incentives, benefits and the like.

"If you schedule recurring teeth cleanings there is always a 15% discount plus a FREE GIFT of a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to ensure you are ready and motivated to maintain your teeth and gums. "
caption phone number linkThe final section and a call to action. Link the telephone number no matter what page it is and always provide the visitor with some idea of when they can make an appointment. Give convenience information.

A professional teeth cleaning, besides daily brushing and flossing, is one of the best things a person can do to keep healthy teeth for a lifetime. Dr. Acula likes to see his patients twice per year to ensure there are no early signs of gum disease, foreign objects stuck in the crevices and to apply a protective coating of fluoride, which reduces cavities by 18% (1).

A professional teeth cleaning usually includes an initial set of x-rays to ensure there are no cavities. This is assessed by the dentist and is with modern technology, only takes 5 minutes. Next is an examination of the teeth and gums followed by very light cleaning and flushing of plaque between the tooth and gums. We finish up with flossing, rinsing and fluoride treatment.
